Mr Skect, Commissioner of Lands' at Auckland, has encountered a strong demand for land by returned soldiers in the Bay of Plenty. On being interviewed when returning from Opotiki, he said tho Land Board had examined 40 applicants for the Woodland Estate of 25 sections, and he had 70 moro applications to examine at Auckland to-morrow. About six weeks hence the Edgar Smith Estato in the Rangitaiki Swamp will be similarly opened for selection, except for a few of tho wettest sections; also soon after 10 sections at Pongakawa, and another Rangitaiki block. All this land is for soldiers.
