A reply to its demand that a royal commission should bo appointed to investigate tli© complaints regarding tho treatment of tubercular patients in the Featherson Military Hospital has been received by the Auckland branch of the Returned- Soldiers' Association from Sir James Allen. Tho Minister states : "We have had th© v-holo matter very thoroughly investigated by tho Defence Department, and in view of tho report received, I am satisfied that there is no necessity for a royal commission." Ho adda that as soon aa he received a littlo further information, which -ho has asked for, a detailed statement will bo made. Referring to tho letter, Mr E. F. Andrews
(recretary of tho Auckland Association) said the association was by no moans reassured? by tho Minister's statement, and in view of tho nature of the report by its representatives it would still press for* a full investigation of the whole matter. If tho Government had nothing to hid® there was no reason why it should not accede to tho request. ;
