Messrs Thod© Bros.' store at Avonclale was entered by burglars on Saturday night, and goods to the value of £100 were stolen, evidently being removed in a cart. ■ ' WANGANUI, July 23. Alfred Franklin Roy, an elderly man, was removed to the hospital ycstcrdfCy morning from the central police station cells suffering from the effects of poisoning. He was locked up on Saturday, and was found in a bad way at 10.30 p.m. He told the police that hi; had taken poison. CimiSTCI-lURCSH, July 28. The health officer (Dr Chesson) states that a hut has been prepared at Quail Island for the Blackball leper, who will 'be removed this week.
At a meeting of tho Canterbury College Bourd of Governors to-day the resolution passed in May—"That immediate eteps be taken to appoint a professor of education, who shall also bo rector of the college"— was rescinded.
