RETURNED SOLDIERS' SOCIAL
GATHERING AT WEST HARBOUR. A very plsasant and enjoyable social was tendered to the returned soldiers of West Harbour in the Ravensbourne Coronation Hall on Saturday night, when the building was packed to its utmost capacity _ Mr H. E. Molter (Mayor) presided, and in a few introductory remarks, ho referred to the creditablo record of those soldiers who hei left the district for service, and expressed the pride which everyone felt in their achievements. The people at homo had done- as much as possible while the men were away, and now that the soldiers were returning he wanted to assure them that they would not bo forgotten. The gathering that evening was one means of bringing them together for an enjoyable tune, and when all the boys had returned tho council was going to tender them another final social. The first part of the evening's entertain ment tool? the form of a concert, which was arranged'by Mr G. Errington, and in which a number of prominent singers aesisW After a splendid supper tho floor was cleared and dancing was maintained- until midnight. A nleasint feature of the social was tab larce number of elderly people who attended, and many a pleasant chat took place on the early erperienoee of the residents. Those who contributed items weroMrs Haweridgo, tho Mis?es Gale (2). and Crawley, Messrs Gooch, Errington, Rawlinson Russell, Ball, G. and R. Gregory, and E. Perry. The local Peace C3lebrations Choir, under Mr Hawpridge, contributed two items, which wore much appreciated Tho nccoirtpaniets were Mrs- Goocn, Misses Low and Gale, and Mr Hawcridgo.
