Ureac preparations are being made for V} 0 entertainment of tho officers and crew of tp.o New /eaiand, which is expected to reach Lyttelton in tlie last week in August, or the tirat week in September. At a meeting of tho Citizens' Executive Committee a tentative list of fixtures was submitted, which included: For the officers, two bolls—ono given by tho citizens and the other by tho ChrJatchurch Club—a conversazione by tho president of tho Navy and a luncheon by the local branch ot Royal Colonial Institute; for tho men—bwiniming carnival, sports meeting, motor runs, trotting meeting, and entertainments on four evenings in tho Colosseum •1 tea and supper will be prouij Ll4 y as . also P r °P<«ed that there snoutd be a; boxing tournament and afternoon football matches. Two delegates were appointed to go to Wellington in order to seo the nature of the functions tnere, and to got in touch with tho officers and petty officers, with a view to ascertaining the class of entertainment acceptable to the men. The Tramway Board will carry the Now Zealand's men free, and wll also provide special trams for them. The whole programme of public entertainments will cost about £1000, and the "Jellicoe Week is being arranged to tako place in Grand National Week for th 0 double purpose of raising money and of giving everyone an opportunity of buying a badge to commemorate the warship's visit.
