Bodk'n, on behalf of the Otago Central Trotting Club, applied,to have sections part 127, 135, and 134,' block I, 48 acres 1 rood 27 poles, Leaning Rook district, set aside as a racecourse reserve.—Resolved that the area be temporarily reserved as a raoecourse reserve.
Messrs Adams Bros., on behalf of Mr John Allan (a discharged soldier), suggested that the law whereby the holder of a lease in perpetuity under The Land for Settlements Act had now no right to acquire the freehold, be amended so as to provide for soldiers who were on active service at the time the right expired being allowed the right to purchase.—Left in the hands of the commissioner to refer the matter to the Under-seoretary for Lands: Mr H. Bayley applied for about 2000 acres of Rooklands on the ground that the land which he already held was too small to make a living on. —Declined. The board was requested to authorise the issue of a lease over section 100, block IX, Leaning Rock S.D.. to Mrs Myrah Harley[ of Alexandra.—Gr.mted. '
The Under-secretary for Lands drew attention_ to paragraph (c) of sub-section (1) of section 12 of The Publio Bodies' Leases Aot, 1905. re remission of rents on education leases.—The board was of opinion that tile section of the Act does not give power to remit rents.
