(Received Oct. 12, at 4.56 p.m.) The best rains recorded for months are falling in the driest districts, ranging from fin to in the more favoured districts. The rain will ensure n fair harvest, while the drier portions, where farmers were faced with ruin, will at least prouuee enough for seed. SYDNEY, October 12. (Received Oct. 12, at 4.56 p.m.) Very heavy rains, accompanied by thunder, are falling in the city to-day. SYDNEY, October 12. (Received Oct. 13, at 1.5 a.m.) There was a strong southerly gale with torrential rain all day, which continued unabated to-night. There ft a heavy sea, and shipping are sheltering. Five inches of rain fell in Sydney since last
night. At times it fell at the rat© of Bin an hour. Some law-lying suburbs have suffered considerably by flood waters. So far the rain is only coastal.
