,BERNE, October 11. (Received Oct. 12, at 4.31 p.m.) The strike leaders in Geneva have been, arrested. Several thousand strikers demanded the resignation of the tramway official. The infantry were ordered to clear the streets, but- their efforts were unsuccessful. The cavalry, with drawn sabres,--then charged the rioters, and wounded several.

Forty-nine Anarchists have been. arrested and a number expelled.

TxiiS PENNSYLVANIA STRIKE. NEW YORK, October 10. 1 (Received Oct. 11, at 9.13 a.m.) Mr Mitcheli, the miners' representative, declares that the people of America will have the next word in the dispute, and that the side they condemn must yield. . He believes they will decide in favour of the miners. He informed' President Roosevelt that the responsibility for the continuation of the strike rests with the mine-owners in refusing arbitration. He also emphasised the absence of any law for enforcing the findings proffered by a commission.

The coal-owners declare that they will resist Mitchell to the bitter end.

THE MINERS' STRIKES

ENGLISH COAL FOR FRANCE

PARIS, October 11. (Received Oct. 12, at 4.42 p.m.) Two thousand tons of English coal was landed at Dunkirk. Other cargoes follow. English coal sold at 25s per ton, a rise of 5,5. There are large imports into France from German and Belgian mines.
