INVERCARGILL.

(From the, Invercargill Times, Dec. 19.) INVBROABQIIit. HORSE, CATTLB, AND SHEEP'3IABKK£ Messrs Hamilton und Proctor report:— v Considerable improvement in business during the past week, a brisk demand having arisen for draught, saddle, and pack horses. Pat cattle and sheep are also much inquired for. We sold to-day a mob of mixed cattle, at an average of Ll4los. We quote as follows:—Fat cattle, 05s per 100 lbs j medium, L2O to L 27. Fat sheep—prime wethers~s2s. Horses - superior heavy draught, L 55 to L9O ; medium and interior, LBO to 60; good useful hacks, L 35 to L 70 ;; iriferioiy L 25 to L3s^ Imported ewes^''•2os;<ioi 355, from 4to 6Maoth preferred.- i Store cattle ancßsheepj at limited supply* andi much inojiked for^ 4jsat stocki scarcely any m the market. <^ N^-/ ■':^i'^^..;- ■ •■ ;'•

It is with great pleasure' that.we notice a very niarked.improvementia tne. general tons.of business.. Upwards of thirty teams h ive left ,town t during the past ten days for the new diggiugs on the W akntipLake, aad the orders received from-the same ioca'-ity will require at least from twe'.vs to twenty raor.?. Horse teams appear to' be 'getting into favor in pre,r f'crence to bullocks which of it&e!! may always bs considered a good sign. Kates of cartage to the foofc of t!ie Lake are : For ho»-se teams, LtiO to L 65, or perhaps we might say a little higher; bullock teams, from a.50 per ton. The Australia, 162 .tons, arrived from Melbourne, bringing an assorted cargo ; amongst other things a small quantity of fbur. rn he supply of the latter article is quite inadequate to the demand existing at present, and as large additions may be exuected to our population, we shall, iv all probability, have shortly to report a considerable rise. Stocks, generally speaking, are very low, and we hear, of large orders. Tne "Balmoral, from Hobart Town, brings :—Timber, 15 3 000 feet; palings, 15,000 ; shingles, 40,000 feet; a description of goods much rquired. A very small quantity of bran, flour, butter. &c. . . .' ~.'
