Ike American ship Torrent, 174 horses on board, was towed up early in tke morning by tke steamer Samson, having brought up at the Heads on tke previous day, and she is already discharging her freight, among which ske only had a loss of two during tke passage. Had southerly breezes and generally fine ■weather during the time. The skip Storm Cloud, from Glasgow, after a short stay hi tke Bluff, sailed thence on Friday, and was towed in to-day by the Samson. She sailed from Glasgow with 206 passenger?, 74 of that number being for Otago. As previously reported, the Storm Cloud, which is a fine iron ship, left on the 14th September, two days after the Pladda, which has not yet arrived; and exclusive of a detention at Port William, Stewart'^ Island, she remained fourteen days at the Bluff, discharging cargo and passengers "booked for that destination, On her passage she spoke no vessel but one, 92 days out from Callao, then 8 degrees north of the Line, Her furtkest southing was 48£ degrees, and while about tkat latitude she sighted a large iceherg, wkick was naturally an object of muck interest to the passengers. During tke passage they enjoyed good kealtk, aud one birth occurred on board during the vessel's stay at the Blutt". On the Storm Cloud rounding Cape Saunders tke signal for tke water police was seen flying, and on the circumstance being reported, the police boat proceeded down to tke Heads in tow of the Samson; when it was found that nine or ten of tke crew, wko had been imprisoned at Invercargill for disobedience of orders, had again refused duty except on certain stipulations as to their discharge, to which they demanded Captain Adams's agreement. They were accordingly taken into custody by Sergeant Joyce, and are in the meantime lodged in tke Port Chaimers lock-up, waiting trial. Outside the Heads a considerable swell has prevailed all day, and some difficulty was experienced in passing tke tow line from tke vessel to tke Samson. Tke brig Cosmopolite, wkicb left tke Pori on Friday, was seen standing out to sea with a B.E wind. The steamer Titania arrived inside the Heads thii
(Sunday) morning, after a quick passage to and rom Invercargill, at full tide proceeded to Dunedin. Captain Jarvey confirms the news of a brij? being ashore at the BJuff, as reported by the captain of the ship Francis Henty. The stranded vessel proves to be th-i brig Prince Albert. The Prince Albert had left Invercargili for the Bluff, and on Wednesday evening last, about seven o'clock, she got ashore neaj JBluff Harbor, She had been alongside the ahip: Flying Mist, taking in cargo, and had just hauled ofe' ; ' ■when by the combined influence of wind arid tide, she was carried on the Toi Toi beach, where she still remains. The extent of the damage she had received ■was not exactly known, but warps and kedges were to be brouprht downfifroia >the Bltiff, with a view to xemoving from her the strand^ if possible.
The Black Ball Ship City of Melbourne, after dis- J charging her freight of sheep by aid of the Samson, niore'tuan 4,000 head in.seven hours, was towed down "on- Saturday. The Francis Henty has also discharged," having only had a ioss of ten during her quick passage. A local effort at ship-building termiiiated in a fine launch on Saturday, ia the neighborhood of Port Chalmcw. .The Jiitle vessel kuauhed was a craffc of froJM forty to fifty tons, and wa^ built in one of the small bays above the Port, where she now floats, a very creditable specimen of ship-building art.
