THE CITY OF HOBART AND THE HOMEWARD MAILS.
The following letter was yesterday handed to us for publication by Mr Ban 1, the Chief,Po^master : — Melbourne, 3rd Novc-mhor, 1862. Srn, —We very much regret having to inform you that, through the unfavorable weather encountered by the City of ll;,bait on the passage up from Otago, she did _ not iearh this port until the 27th ultimo, thus btin^' again too late to deliver the New Z-"ahif;d mails to the out-^/ing Knglish mail-boat, which left tLis on the 20i.1i ult. No efforts were -.pared by Captain Darby, but the weather was of s-ueh a fearful character that it was impossible to reach this port earlier. The passage occupied ten days, during which time Captain Darby scarcely chanj;vd his clothe^, and made tv ry iffort possible to arrive by the 20th, and we i egret she was aot successful.
