THE PRINCE OF WALES BIRTHDAY

(To the Editor of the Daily Times.) Sik,—l have observed several letters during the last fnw days in your valuable and influential paper, touching the propriety of celebrating the fact of the Prince of Wales, attaining his majority. That an evontof this character should he marked in the most conspicuous manner, and with all the honor by wliich it can be marked, is evidenced by the receipt of the intelligence by the last European "mail, that the Imperial Government had decided thafc the 9th Nov. shall be Gazetted, not only for the present, but fbr future time as a public day of rejoicing, and there is not 1 presume, a man to be found in the British dominions, who would in the slightest degree desire to impair the universal sentiment of doing honor to the Prince, and evincing that loyal spirit which actuates every truly British heart. But why these letters ? I feel ashamed, for one, to enter upon such a subject. This is one so perfectly universal that the Government ought to anticipate the public wish, and without a moment's hesitation congratulate the people on this glorious occasion, and decree a public holiday to celebrate it. If the Government are so timid as to shirk what ought to a pleasant duty, let the people declare amongst themselves that they at least are sensible of their duty if the Government are not, and let them refrain from business, and be jolly on this occasion at least. Your obedient servant, One of the L >yal Sort.
