The Th&npypf Fife, previously reported, camejip ta a low berth on Sunday evening. She brings a general cargo and 49 passengers, .who have already pr ceeded '© town. She made'-thepassage by Cook's Straits, ahd during the latter part experienced a continuance of very heavy weathe". On this side of tlie Strait* sighted the barque Notbs, bound from this port for Sydney. .At Sydney, the Hebe, Mountain Maid, and Stately, were laid oa for Otago. ' The small fore-and-aft schooner Midas, from bourne; readied port on Sunday evening. She brings grain, timhgr, an 1 hardware. She left on the 7tb, and on the following day sprung her bowsprit, in consequence of which she had to put into Refuge' Cove, where she was some time detained. - From the 17th to the :23rd she had very boisterous weather from the S.W., and in company with other crafts, put into Port William, on the north side of Stewart's Island. The Eucalyptus and the Dart, with the schooner Pilot from Invercargill, took shelter there at the same time. .Tp the northward of the opening of Foveaux Straits, she met five vesseLs southward bound, including the CoraospolPe and Warren Goddard from this port. The William and Margareb, a small schooner sin ilar to the Midas, and belonging to the same owner; reached port this morning. She left on the same day, and had similarly boisterous weather, having been hove to for nigh seven days. She brings bricks, timber, aud iron. Both the Midas aud she are about the smallest craft we have had "from Melbourne, and it was no small venture to make the pas«ige in vessels of such insignificant size, and in weather such as has recently prevailed. The brig Missie, from Geelong, brings a freight of horses, with some general cargo. She sailed on the Bfch, had light aud bafflting winds in the Straits, but subsequently had very heavy weather, and atout midway, on tlieni^ht of the 19th, a severe gale from the S.S.W., which was the cause of considerable lo^s among her horses. From the 19th until the 21st she v/as hove to, and then and subsequently lost 13 head. As the vessel was entering Port Chalmers, one of the hands (Wm. Hind) had the misfortune to fall from the top, a height of from 40 to 50 feet. He v/as immediately conveyed ashore by Captain Keenan, and placed under medical care; and, though at fuyt he appeared to be very seriously injured, hope is entertained of his ultimate recovery. The Triton, also from Newcastle, brings a quantity of coal, with general cargo, and a few passengers. She left on the Sth, and experienced the same wea'her as the others. Off the Solander >poke the Queen if Perth, bound for Newcastle. The Time and Truth had left Newcastle about a week before the Triton— [has since arrived], . The Gratia, from Sydney, reached the port in the morning. She brings 51 passengers, and cargo, consisting principally of coat and maize. Had very heavy weather. On the tern ination of the passage, the pass-eugers presented to Captain Paton, a letter complimenting liim highly on Ids skill and his attention to their comfort. The Picard- made a passage of nine days from Hobart Town. Brings a general cargo and thirteen horses, having had a lo?s of two. The Juno had been entered outward for Dunedin with eighty-one horses, but it is considered probable that she would proceed to Invercargill. By the landing of the Picard's horsss, with those of the Missie and Samuel Appleton, there has been some bu3tle on shore at the Port to-day, as there has been afloat. The schooner Urania, from Hobart Town, reached the Port in the iorcnoon." Is principally timberladen. Spoke the Queen of Perth, from Invercargill, westward of Foveaux Straits, and other vessels which had been wind-bound at Port William. The brig Prairie, from Lyttelton, had arrived at Hobart Town on the 10th, and was expected "to load horses. The Mary Ann entered out. for Auckland on the 11th; and the Why Not sailed for Invercargill on the same day.
