THE DUNSTAN ESCORT.
THE NEW DIGGINGS AT THE TEVIOT.
(FKO3I OUU -'TUAPEKA CORRESPOXDEXT.)
Tnapeka, Oct., 14.
This evening the escort arrived from the Dnnstan under the charge of Inspector Morton. The journey was accomplished in two days, and with great apparent case, horses and men arriving here in excellent order an 1 condition. The amount of gold brought down Jrom the Duns tan is 6,240 oz. 19 dwts., and from the Teviot, 115 oz. 8 dwts.
The amount from the Teviot-was handed to Mr Morton by Mr Rdlly, who it appears had taken the gold in exchange for goods. Gold was offering freely at the Teviot for 703, per oz., without any chance of its being disposed of. At present there is a considerable population settled there, which will undoubtedly increase as the winter se£s in. In the meantime the miners are but indifferently supplied with provisions, and there are no facilities for the sale of gold. As th place increases in importance it will no doubt attract the attention of one or other of the banking institutions of the colony.
