WAITAHUNA.

[communicated.]

{To the Editor of the Daily Times.)

Sir, — It is somewhat surprising that an old diergiuprs like Waitahuna should remain so long without a burial ground. It' is a question frequently asked, but seldom answered. The only conjecture is, that fewer persons have died on Waitahuna than any other gold field with a like population; therefore it is generally supposed that the Government are of opinion that none is required, but such, Mr Editor, is not sufficient excuse, for even thougb there were but three deaths in twelve months, it must necessarily fall very heavy on the friends of the deceased, for I have .come knowledge of two or more person's being buried on the ranges between Waitahuna and the Woolshed. I can also call to mind a person having died some few weeks since, on whom Dr Samuels held an inquest. Tbe cost for interment, including coffin, &c, was something over thirteen,'pounds (£l3). Now as the expense must necessarily fall directly on the Government, it is believed that the Government will take some steps in tLe matter.

I must confess that I am somewhat departing from the subject, but really I cannot, but inquire how is it that Tuapeka enn boast of a cemetery, an hospital, a mining board, and I know not how much money for roads, storm channels, and deep-sinking a ssoctations'? but I know it to be a somewhat considerable amount. Excuse me for my inquiries, but 1 cannot but exclaim that Waitahuna has been completely forgotten or neglected.

And an*. Sir, Your obedient servant, PftQ BONO PIIBLJCO.
