YIELD OP COLD FKOM COBOMONDEL.
i Thes.s. Wonga Wonga, arrived ia Wellington [Harbour on Tuesday, from Manukau. Taranaki, iNelson, and Pictou, and brings us our usual files to JulyJlst. There is no general news of importance from Auckland except the gradual development of the Coroiuaudel gold field, relative to which we make the following extracts from the Southern Cross :— A huge number of specimens of gold and quartz | were brought to town yesterday from Coromandel jMr. Watson and his party came up, fetching the entire of their specimens, which they crushed on Mr ;Cochrane's premises. The specimens weighed aixml 171bs. in all, and the yield of gold when cleaned and dried, was five and-a-balf lb=s Tins amalgamated party of sixteen men, durin^ -tiie four weeks they were engaged in* rtie Driving Cro.% obtained quartz specimens, weighing in all •31 lbs. Among these was the " Welcome Nugget," weighing fJ lbs. soz , winch was purchased by^lr. Samuel Cochrane. Altogether the first lot of specimens sold by Mr. Watson, on account of his party, fetched LYJ2 ss. The gold taken from the specimens crushed yesterday is valued at L 193, takin«- it at L 3 an ounce. This would cive a total of L 333 ss. A bag containing 48| oz. of gold dust was also deposited in this office for Mr. Yon Tempskv, who is at pre?'-nt on a visit in the neighbourhood.— Wellington Independent, August 7.
