(To the Editor of the Daily Times.) Sir,-—With your permission, we will for the present discontinue any farther correspondence relative to my concerns. Your remarks this morning have to some extent justified my observation as to the source from which the information was obtained, and I have addressed a letter to the Commissioner of Police, praying for an inquiry to be instituted. My only object is to know who originated the report. I have no ill-f-eling on the matter, turther than I think, on the broad principles of common honesty, proof—clear, well-detined proof—should be dealt with ; and all tbe constables in existence cannot prove the truth of your article. Further than this, I have no animus, as, had it been true, I would hide my head with shame, and acknowledge it deserved. Yours truly, Tiiomas Calcutt. July 31,1802.
