THE DISTRESS IN THE MANUFACTURING DISTRICTS OF ENGLAND.
To the Editor ofthe Daily Tim es. Sin;— Permit me to h*k, through the medium of .your valuable paper, whether any collection for the relief of our poor distressed countrymen at home has been set on foot? Surely, everyone calling himself by the name of Christian, must feel to the very core the harrowing detiils of woe which have been brought us by tbe last mail. Are we to aljo-w the gold diggings, the Town Board, and the mud to abs.qrb all' our attention, arid not to have one thought about our starving brothers and s-inters at home, who arc p-iwning their very Bibles for a last morsel of bread ? If we were starving would they forget us, and shall we now, because we arc prosperous, forget.them ? I have tbo honor to be,: sir, Your obedient servant, Chas. Doi'ping Irvine. 1 Albion Hotel, i June 22nd.
