BARR, Chief Postmaster. , TO ARCHITECTS. nnilE Provincial Government of Canterbury, New X Zealand, being about to erect a LUiVATIC ASYLUM on Section No. 159, on the Lincoln Road, about 2J miles from Christchurch, invite Architects to submit designs for such edifice. The building to be capable of accommodating1 50 patients—say 33 males and 17 females, with all necessary offices: bath-rooms, vcrtion-vorvrxs. and Surgeon-Superintendent's ro^idenay; end to I.c so arranged that a portion oou!:! he erected, complete in itself, for the reception of half the above number of atients. The design to comprise the modern improvements usually found in such buildings, with careful arrangements for classification, light, warmth, ventilation, sanitary arrangements, and efficient security and supervision. The material used is left to the suggestion of the Architects, —stone foundation being in any case indispensable, and well raised above the ground-line. The drawings required will be a black plan, showing sewage and water drains; a plan of each floor, and a roof plan, at least two elevations and two sections —all drawn to a scale of 8 feet to an inch; also, a perspective view finished in outline —Sepia, Indian Ink, or Pencil—no view in colours will be admissible. ' ' Thedrawings to be accompanied by a specification of a general character, and an approximate estimate of the cost of the whole j and the part proposed to be first built. The Provincial Government offers the sums of £100 and £50 respectively, for the best and second best designs, which, in the opinion of their advisers may be most worthy of such premiums.
