Railway Company. FfIHIS Company lias been formed to supply the City X of Dunedin and its inhabitants with Gas, at a reasonable cost. The Company's Engineer, during his stay in Dtmedin, has been enabled from personal observation to arrive at accurate details of the necessary expenditure ; and it has been ascertained that the works contemplated can be completed and placed in active operation for a sum within the proposed capital of £15,000, and within a period of from three to four ] months from the time of completing the necessary preliminary arrangements. The great and permanent improvement to trade and town property which will be realized by the establishment of this Company has been fully recognised from the fact that upwards_ of one-third of the capital has been subscribed within a few days; and as an early allotment of shares will take place, persons who may be desirous of becoming shareholders are requested to make application for shares without delay, as it is confidently expected that the Share List will be filled up in the course of another week. The proposed course of lighting will be Georgestreet, Jail-street, Princes-street, Jetty-street, Manse-street, the Arcade, Hope-street, and portionsof Walker street, Stafford-street, High-street, Rattraystreet, and Maclaggan-street; and no doubt can exist as to the highly [profitable returns which will be secured from the manufacturing operations of this Company, in proof of which it may be mentioned, that on the main pipes of the most important and prosperous Gas Company in the Colonies there is only an average of 85 consumers to the mile of main laid down ; whereas, in Dunedin, the average will be about 100 consumers to the mile; it may therefore be confidently anticipated that a return of £15 per cent on the capital invested will be realised, after ampla provision nas been made to provide for repairs, and all contingencies. The necessary permission to lay down pipes through the streets has already been obtained from the Town Board ; a period of six weeks will intervene between the calls of £1 each, of which dv« nOtiCeWm STEPHEN HUTCHISON, C.E., Engineer and Projector.
