TjIREQUENT instances Laving occurred of Der sertinn from Her Majesty's1 Sea and Land Forces in this Colony, _, • Notice is hereby given, that the most rigorous proceedings will be taken against any person enticing; away, harboring, concealing, or employing Deserters. CLAUSES OF IMPERIAL ACTS RELATING TO DESERTERS. . - Naval Deshrtios. 10 and 11. Viet., chap. 62, sec. 11. "And be it enacted, That every pers»n who, by words or any other means whatsoever, shall pen>uiuie any person in Her Majesty's Navy to desert, or improperly absent himself from hia duty, shall forfeit and pay the sum of twenty pounds for every such act; and every person who shall assist or procure any person in Her Majesty's Navy to desert, or improperly absent himself from his duty ; or shall conceal, employ, or continue to employ any person belonging to Her Majesty's Navy, wjio shall be a deserter, or improperly absent from his duty, knowing him to be such a desertor, or so improperly absent, shall forfeit and pay the sum of thirty pounds for every still assistance, procurement, concealment, employment, or continuing of employment, as aforesaid.". Marine Desertion. 21 Viet., cap. 7, sec. 54. " Any person who shall, in any part of Her Majesty's dominions, by words or any other means whatsoever, directly or indirectly, procure any- Marine to desert ; or shall by words or by any other mean whatsoever, attempt to procure or persuade any Marine to desert; and any person •who, knowing tha Marine is about to desert, shall aid or assist him ia deserting; or, knowing any Marine to be a deserter, shall conceal such deserter, or aid or assist sucli deserter in concealing himself, or aid or assist in his rescue, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall, on conviction thereof, be liable to bo punished by fine or imprisonment, or both, as the Court before which such conviction shall take place may adjudge." > _ ' Military Deskrtiok, . The races to be run under the rules of the Nelson Jockey Club, and the decision of the . Stewards to b« final. No person allowed to enter a horse for any of the races unless a subscriber of LI to the Race Fund. Entrances for the Tokomairiro Stakes,, to be mad* under seal addressed to the Stewards, at Vause'g White Horse Hotel, before 8 p.m. on the evening of Saturday, the 26th April, with names and colors of the riders. - • Entries for the other races can be.made up to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, the 20th April.
