" According to my promise I have written- theso few lines, although I cannot give you much information of this place yet ; suffice it to say, that what fay: men arc here seem to be getting a good supply of gold. I am only speaking from my own knowledge. My sister lias a store here, then there are two others, and, judging from the quantity of
gold her husband has bought since Saturday, and the lot of goods tlioy liuve sold, men must be doing well. 1 hear them say they wwnnt work without gunpowder and drills." Picks and shovels are 110 use here. 'Theio are a few who have excL-llc-iit claims. I heard one man offered L2OO for his share in a claim, but he refused it-. They work four in a ]>:iHy. Still, I cannot take upon myself to advise any* of yon to come, ns there is no kind of employment but dinging, and that is at the first expensive."
