(Per Press Association.) Fcilding, January 28. Ail important considered judgment wah delivered by Mr A. D. Thomson, S.M., at the Feilding Court to-day in the case Fcilding' Borough Council v. Archbishop Redwood and! Father O'Meara. Defendants chimed exempt ion from rates btcauAo Archbishop Redwood's property bold the convent and school, and Father OVMcara's was a playground. In Archbishop Redwood's caso it was shewn that the nuns used the convent to teach music and singing other than to pupils of the school. The magistrate, therefore, ruled that the convent land was liablo to pay rates. In Father O'Meara's case, where thero were three sections nob divided by a fence to which the children had access, but on which a cow was 'grazing, defendant was ordered fo pay rates on ono soction. The action was a friendly ono, brought forward to settle a legal question as to the payment of rates.
