AUCKLAND. (BT TELEGRAPH.) December 3. All sorts of grain and produce are plentifully supplied. Oats are overstocked, and the demand is not brisk. Good samples are quoted at 2s. The state of trade is such that oats cannot be imported at a profit, being obtainable in the market cheaper than they can be Imported from the South. Flour is dull and heavily stocked. New potatoes fetch L 4 to L 5 per ton. Picked Oamaru move o£F slowly, at L 3 to L 4.
TIMARU. (BY TELEGRAPH.) December 3. Mr. Moss Jonas reports: —Cattle of all descriptions are in good demand, particularly young stock and stores. Beef, 22s per lOOlbs. Horses—First-class draughts are enquired for, but few are offering. Merino wethers, 4s 2d ; ewes, 4s 3d. Cross-bred wethers, 10s. Oats have advanced Id to 2d, the present quotations for prime feed being Is 4d to Is sd.
CHRISTCHURCH GRAIN AND PRODUCE REPORT. (From the Canterbury Times.) The week just closed has been a most uneventful one. The market continues very quiet, and the business generally has been limited. The most pleasing feature of the week has been the opportune fall of rain, which win be of incalculable benefit to the farming interest. ■Wheat.—Not much businesshas transpired in this grain. Yalues are a shade easier. Best milling is quoted at 4s 3d to 4s 4d ; inferior parcels have been sold at 33 6d to 3s IGcL Oats.—The dulness which has characterised oats for some little tinte past still continues, and buyers, except for actual orders, ore apathetic. Best milling stand at Is Gd to 1b Bd. Feed qualities range from Is 3d to Is sd, according to sample, but also share with heavy oats an absence of inquiry. Barley.—Not much has been bronght forward, and the few samples have been chiefly of the lower grades. Best is quoted at 3s 3d to 3s 6d, and other sorts 23 6d to 2s lOd. Feed lots are quiet at Is 6d to Is 9d. Flour is in fair demand at LlO 10s to Lll. Rye-grass is without the slightest inquiry. A few sales of cocksfoot, to clear stocks, bave been made at a price withheld. Dairy Produce.— I The quotation for butter stands at s?d to 6d ; cheese, 4d ; hams and bacon, in cloth, 9d.
MELBOURNE MARKETS. The Australasian of the 27th November reports : An export demand has been experienced, keeping prices firm until to-day, •when a sligntly easier feeling was manifested about wheat. Flonr has been moved off in trade parcels at L97s6d to L 9 10s. On Tuesday one parcel of 25 tons was placed at L 9 10s. 0r.,! 0 t auction L 9 7s fid was accepted. We quote to-day L 9 7s 6d to L 9 10s, with however, little business to report beyond the supply of trade wants. In wheat on Monday gales were made of a few hundred bags at 4a 4d to 4s sd. On Tuesday there was a pood inquiry for wheat for export, and very full prices were paid in consequence. Local millers, however, operated very sparingly—fn feet, would not have purchased at all at present prices were they not compelled. But stocks in hand being light, full rates were obtained publicly as well as privately. A line of 600 bags wa3 sold at 4s 6d net. delivered at Sandridge, and 200 bags at 4s 7d, also delivered at Sandndge, while 300 bags were placed at 4s 5d at station, and a line of 300 bags fair wheat was taken up at 4s 4d. At auction about 950 bags were disposed of 9Jd to 4s 3d and 4s sd, according to aualSty. To-day, at auction, 1500 bags were ifcapngjrl of at prices varying from 3s 9d to 4s and 4s 2d to 43 3Sd ; although the lastpazned price was for fine, 4s 4d was offered for parcels in the room. Oats have been quiet, bat values have been maintained. Sales of feeding have been making at 2s 4Ad to 23 Gd for common to fine heavy qualities. At Auction to-day 2s 3d to 2s 6d was obtained, Privately 500 bags were disposed of *t2s For malting barley no demand {ias been experienced. Sales of feeding have been made both privately and at auction. On Monday 500 bags Cape were taken up at 2s 4Ad. We quote feeding to-day at 2s to 2s 6d. Maize has had a fair business at auction ; 2000 bag 3 were quitted at 3s Id net, and 3s t|d short terms. Trade sales are making at 3s IW. Sales of bran by auction have been making at to 9.Jd; pollard at lOd. In oatmeal and pearl barley we have no alteration to note.
