THE PATETERE BLOCK.

The Post says that it is understood that a decision has at length been arrived at in respect to the Patetere Block, Waikato. An application has now been received froni Mr. Chapman, as solicitor to the principal native owner, that Government should refund either in cash or in land, the huter to be in one block or blocks of ,'ivet\vr e quality, assigned by the Native Lands Courtas representing Govern merit interests in the land pthe proclamation then to be withwrawn. The Government, findimr a sitting of that Court will take place °on 24t.h January next, when such a matter could be dealt with, resolved to give public notice that the Patetere proclamation will be removed on 3rd February following This will allow ten days to perfect the title to the block, assigned by the Court, so that should any unforseen difficulty arise to prevent a clear title being obtained, the proclamation can be re-issued. The Chief Surveyor at Auckland will be instructed to select suitable land within blocks which have passed through the Court to represent the value of Government advances, ;ind it is believed there will be no objection to the acquirement of this land by the Crown. After the removal of the proclamation on the 3rd February, tho remainder of the Patetere Block will be open for purchase by private individuals according to law. Tho present arrangement is made solely with native owners, irrespective of any private persons or company.
