NORTH OTAGO AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
The total number of entries for the forthcoming show has fallen considerably below the average, owing chiefly to the absence of many who have previously been strong exhibitors. Thus draught horses show a decline of 18 ; .thoroughbreds and hacks, 27 ; cattle, G6 (chiefly in Ayrshires) ; poultry, 25 ; dairy produce, 29; implements, 26; and seeds, 17. Sheep, however, show an increase'of 19, and other classes remain at about last year's figures. The entries for private prizes have very seriously declined. The following is a detailed list of the entries : Horses— Draught ... ... ... 91 Thoroughbreds and Hacks ... 52 CattleShorthorns ... ... ... 23 Ayrshires ... ... ... 77 Others ... ... ... ... 7 Sheep— Merino ... ... ... ... 5S Leicesters ... ... ... 27 Lincolns ... ... ... ...11l Ilomney Harsh... ... ... M. Holmes and Messrs, E. Menlove and R. Davie, but many others have small numbers of exhibits. Thoroughbreds will bring out a large number of competitors. In shorthorns the competition will chiefly rest between Messrs. Reid and Menlove, and that for Ayrshires between Messrs. Gemmell, Duncan,, and M'Farlane (Dunedin). Messrs. J. Borton, A. M'Master, and W. Gardiner will be the principal exhibitors of merino sheep, and here we may express a regret that the Hon. R. Campbell has not entered his famous merino sheep. At the last show they formed a pro.minent feature, and everyone would have been glad to see them once more brought upon the ground. Leicesters will be principally shown by Messrs. H. R. and J. E. Parker, P. H. Russell, and If. Little, andit will thus be seen that tfye greater bulk of exhibits in this class vvill come from the Waimate and Timarn districts. Lin-, colns will unquestionably prove the
great feature of the show, and f or the cup for this class there will bo strong competition between the Hon, Holmes, -Messrs. E. Menlove, P. ]j" Russell (Timarn), F. Sutton (Southland)' and T. Sutton (Southland). Altogether the show, though not characterised by such a large number of exhibits, will bo a good one, for we know that none but the best class of stock will bo shown,
