OTEPOPO ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of this Board was held on Friday. There were present— Messrs. Diehl (Chairman), Henderson (Treasurer), Mitchell, Morton, Watson, Scott, Morrison, Anderson, M'Donald, and M'Leod. On the motion of Mr. M'Donald seconded by Mr. Morrison, the minutes of last meeting were adopted as read. The outward correspondence was read and approved. The inward correspondence was read considered as follows : A letter from Mr. Jacob Shackelton requesting permission to remove spoil from Short-street, Maheno.—On the motion of Mr. Morton, seconded by Mr. Mitchell, the matter was referred to the members of the Sydney subdivision. A letter from Mr. R. Thompson, complaining of cattle and horses straying on the district roads.—Mr. Anderson moved, and Mr. M'Donald seconded, that Mr. Thompson be appointed an honorary Ranger. Letters from the Kakanui, Waitaki, and Waiareka Road Boards re Engineer's salary.—lt was decided to postpone consideration of them for a fortnight. Applications for the Rangership were received from Henry M'Kay and George Wilson. —On the motion of Mr. M'Donald, seconded by Mr. Anderson, tlie offer of George Wilson to act as Ranger three days a week, and as-surfaceman the other three, at LI 10s a week for twelve months was agreed to, and the Clerk was directed to draw up a contract embodying the conditions., Mr. Scott, in accordance with notice given at last meeting, moved that the rate for the current year be 9d per £ of the annual value. Seconded by Mr. Anderson. Mr. Morton, according to notice, moved that the rate be Is in the £ of annual value,' Seconded by Mr. Mitchell. On being put to the meeting, five voted far each motion, and by the casting vote of the Chairman the shilling rate was carried. It was decided to hold a special meeting on November 12th to confirm the rate, & c. On the motion of Mr. M'Donald, seconded by Mr. Henderson, the Clerk was appointed valuer. On the motion of Mr. Morton, seconded by Mr. Mitchell, the Engineer was directed to make a survey of a deviation of road between sections 72 and 73, block 4, and to prepare plan and specifications for its formation. Several accounts were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
