His dam was the celebrated mare Matchless, never beaten in her day. He also gained the first prisse, against all comers', at the Southland Agricultural and Pastoral Society's Show in; 1867, being there for the first time shown in New Zealand, The following year he gained the Gold Medal at the Tokomairiro Agricultural and Pastoral Society' 3 Grand Show, and was reckoned by competent judges to be the best bred horse in Otago; also, the Gold Medal at the Clutha, Scotland Yet-gained second prize at the Southland Agricultural and Pastoral Society's Show in 1877 ; and iu 1878 he gained the same Society's first prize, beating a ; field of seven, and : he was admitted by the judges on that, occasion, to be the beat colt bred from the Prince of Wales.
