Excelsior Club. The Excelsior Cricket Club played their first match of the season on the Old Cricket Ground on Saturday afternoon between sides ohosen by Mr. G. Fen wick (captain), arid Mr. C. W. Cooke (deputycaptain). Mr. Cooke winning the toss, decided togo first to the wickets, his side putting togfcither the respectable score of£lo before
i ing well for his 31. Tti6 fielding and bowling of D. Moore for the captain's side was .very, good indeed) he succeeding in bowling five and catching three. The captain's teata on going to the wickets did tiot make a very long stand, Forbes being highest scorer with 16, while Fen wick played patiently for his 10. The total only reached 48 when the last man was run out. The match wa3 won by the deputycaptain's side by 42<runs. The following are the scores of the respective teams :
