PEDESTRIAN MATCH.
(li¥ TELEGRAPH.) Wellington, September 10. At the drill-shed this evening, O'Connor, of Timaru, walked a mile in 6 min. 58sec. This is said to be the fastest time on record in the Australian Oologies, The 24 hours go-as-you-please pedestrian match commenced at the drill-shed at 10 o'clock this evening. The course measured 80 yards. At 12 o'clock the positions were : Brooks, Dunedin, 15 miles 2 laps ; Smith, Wellington, 15 miles ; Crofts, Wellington, 14 miles 19 laps. The remaining competitors, six in number, ranged from 12 to 10 miles. September 11. At Q this morning, only four out of the nine competitors were left in the pedestrian match. Crofts, of Wellington, has covered 64 miles ; Brooks, Dunedin, 61 miles; Swan, Christchurch, 58 miles ; Hanson, Wellington, 58 miles. At 1.30 p.m. Croft had walked 84 miles 3 laps ; Brooks, 82 miles 12 laps \ Swan, 76 miles 3 laps ; 'Hanson, fl miles 14 laps."
