Sydney, September 1. The Cabinet has decided to suspend W. W. Stepen, W. S. Lands, find the accountant Croft for carelessness in con* nection with the recent embezzlement of LBOO by the lad Evans, a clerk in the Lands Office. A further inquiry into the matter will be held. At the inquest on Patrick Mulday, who was found burned to death on Bugarra road, the jury returned a verdict of wilful, murder against Nolan, the man who first informed the police of the affair. Nolan has been committed for trial. A. woman named Curran, who lived with. Nolan, has been arrested on a charge of being accessory before the fact. The case possesses some very extraordinary features. Melbourne, September 1. Diphtheria is very prevalent at Talbot, where also there is a plague of black caterpillars destroying all vegetation.
