(SPECIAL TO SYDNEY MORNING HERALD.) London, August 31. General Roberts has arrived at Candahar. Ayoub Khan has withdrawn his entire force to Argandate, north of the city. He was prevented by the Cabul regiments from retiring to Gereshk and Helmund. General Phayres' intended co-operation with General Roberts has been delayed. Four land meetings were held in Ireland on Sunday, when were passed in favor of abolishing landlordism. Mr. Gladstone has visited Dartmouth, Falmouth, Dublin, and Greenock, He met with an enthusiastic reception at Dublin, and in reply to a deputation at Greenock, he admitted his health was improved.
(SPECIAL TO SYDNEY EVENING NEWS.) London, August 30. Khelat has been evacuated, and the garrison'ordered to join General Roberts' army. From all parts of Afghanistan come reports of scarcity of fodder, and the horses employed in military service had to be put on half allowance. Advices from Belloocliistan state that the native population are restless, and disturbances are feared. Serious discontent prevails among the Pathans at Kurrachee, the principal seapoyt town of Scinde, ill Ilindostan. Fearing revolt, the British Minister ordered their disarmament, and has taken steps to be prepared for any emergency. The Czar of Russia has started for Lividia, and will spend the winter there.
