LIVINGSTONE.

(from oub, own coruespondknt), September 4. There is hope for the country when the Government feels itself bound to carry out so literally the wishes of Parliament as do our present rulers. We have only one Civil Servant residing here beside the school teacher, viz., the postmaster, who luxuriates in the magnificent salary of L 6 sterling per annum ; at least he did, but our never-surpassed and perfectly impartial Government have recently notified to that functionary that in the interests of the country, with a view to, if possible, avoiding both the Bankruptcy Court and. repudiation they find it necessary .to. reduce his salary to, say, L 5 8s perannum. To in some measure recompense: him for this serious reduction they holdl out a promise that if he continues to conduct the business of the office in the sama satisfactory manner as hitherto his name will be put on the civil list, when hec will at the end of say 20 years be entitled! to a pension amounting to one-third the amount of his present salary» say &}& per week. Of course he is so elated at the> promise that the postal business; at Livingstone will be conducted more satisfactorily than ever (if this be possible). Two accidents have occurred here during the week* fortunately without serious results. The Rev* Mr. Wilson conducted service in the schoolroom on Friday evening. At the close he informed his hearers that it is very unlikely he will be able to visit Livingstone, again his Lordship the Bishop having made arrangements for hia. removal to a curacy down south.
