FIRE NEAR CHELMER-STREET.

Last night shortly before 11 o'clock, a fire broke out in a shed adjoining the house of Mr. Hector Morrison on the hill-side between Chelmer and Yare streets. Shortly after the alarm was riven several* neighbors were upon tho scene but nothing could be done to save the building, which was filled with chaff, wood coal, &c., and burned rapidly. Tho whole of the efforts of those present were devoted to preventing the spread of the flames to the fence or the main building and in this they were successful. The shed was valued at L2O, and its contents at about L2 10s, and Mrs. Morrison expresses her belief that the building waa insured, No cluo has been to the cause of the fire. Mrs. Morrison states that her husband was away from home seeking work in the country, that a boy about 12 years of age went into the shed to get some wood about the timo people were returningfrom church, andthat about 10.45 o'clock she heard a noise and saw the glare of the fire through her bedroom window. One of the neighbors asserts that he saw smoke issuing from the place during the afternoon, but took no heed of the fact, as he thought the shed was occupied. A considerable amount of time elapsed after the fij©, broke out before the church bell was; rung, but many members of the Kre, Brigade under Captain Mainland were, promptly on the ground, and materially assisted in preventing the spread of the* fire.
