PRESENTATION TO MASTER GEORGE BROWNLEE.
In accordance with previous arrangement, the presentation of the Royal Humane Society's medal to Master George Brownlee took place at the High School yesterday, in the presence of the school children and a number of ladies and gentlemen. The presentation, was made by his Worship the Mayor. His Worship mentioned that correspondence from the Secretary to the Royal Humane Society and Earl Kimberly had been forwarded to him by the Colonial Secretary, together with a medal which he had been requested, on behalf of the Rovai Humane .Society of Great Britain, to present to Master George Brownlee as a token of the Society's appreciation of an act of bravery which he had performed in November last, in attempting to save from dro.Tiling, at the Phoenix Mill dam, two- children named oodcock. He (his Worship) had not until that morning been a.vare of the circumstances'under which the Society became cognisant of the facts of the case. He had been informed that Mr. Mi rams had written Home n detailed account of the circumstances, and it was but fair to Mr. Mirams that it should be made known that it was through his instrumentality that Master Brownlee's act of bravery had been so t'utin*_dy rewarded. He was sure they n-ould ail agree with him that the recipient had had a very great and exceptional honor conferred upon him by the Royal Humane Society, whose honors were bestowed with discrimination. He then handed the medal to Master Brownlee, saying he trusted the recipient would regard it as a mark of honor to be proud of for the rest of his life, and to be afterwards transmitted as an heirloom. Master Brownlee expressed his thanks to the Royal Humane Society for having so kindly "rewarded his efforts to save life, which he regretted had been unsuccessful. Ho also thanked Mr. Mirams for having brougiit the matter under the notice of the society, and his Worship and the ladies and gentlemen for having attended that afternoon.
On the call of Mr. Mirams, three hearty cheers were given for Maater Brownlee, and at the request of Mr. Peattie three cheers were given for the Mayor.
