A VISIT TO TE WHITI.

Mr. R. Graham* of Auckland, accompanied Marsh Tarangikateke on a visit to Parjhaka on Tuesday, returning to town i last night. When they arrived at Parihaka, Tohu had finished his speech. Mr, Graham was invited to Te Whiti's, whare, and was introduced to the prophet. Mr. Graham said (addressing Te Whiti), " You saved lives a,t the wreck of the Lord Worsley. I was one of the passengers whom you saved.' 1 I: Te Whiti: " Yes ; I recognise you." Mr. Graham : Show me your right hand, that I may be satisfied." Mr. Graham, and the prophet then shook hands. Mr. Graham continued: " You are called Te Whiti now, but I knew you in, the old days as Eretuadding, " you. were then friendly to the Europeans how is it you are now causing all this trouble with the pakeha ?" Te Whiti mad?, no reply.
After some further rema^ subjects, Mr. Graham retired to h whare. Shortly afterwards he was visited . by Patare, and a conversation was entered into. u
Mr. Graham asked Patare whv he Te Whiti were causing all the trouble •Patare replied : "It will all come ririit We shall continue fencing. First tha men will go, and when they are all takon the women will take their places, and when they too are made prisoners the children will go to fence. Te Whiti and Tohu will then go themselves to fence and will be taken .prisoners." Patare also compared the Government, to Satan, and said their works were thai works of Satan. He' said: "Do you think if we intended to fight, we would allow all our fighting men to bo taken away ? We have no intention of fighting " Mr. Graham also conversed with other natives, and they were all confident that Te Whiti would bring them out of all trouble. They were determined to abide, by the counsels of the prophet to the end. Having seen the principal chiefs at Parihaka, and obtained a clear insight into their feelings, Mr. Graham took his leave and returned to town. He loft for Onehunga in the Rangatira at 5.30 tonight.
