POLITICAL INTELLIGENCE.

(by tfxegraph. ) (from our own correspondent.) Welunqtqn, July 31. The Public Accounts Committee, having considered the position of the investments of the public trust funds, renorts that no loan should be made out of* the trust funds upon any other than the securities of New Zealand or any other Government, or upon bank deposit receipts ; that as soon as possible at least one-third of the amount at the credit of the Post Office Savings Bank account should be invested in Government bonds, interest on whifth is payable in London, such securities to be deposited in London to be used in the event of any possible financial emergency in the Colony. The Post Office account shows a nominal value of L7G4.610; Government" insurance, L 350,900 ; public trust, L 74,900 ; total, L 1,220,410. A motion will come on next week having for its object the rating of towns and districts for the support of public libraries. Mr. Oliver will make his Public Works Statement at the evening sitting on Tuesday. The final report o| the Native Commission will probably be laid on the table on Monday. It is said that its presentation has been frequently delayed owing to Sir William Fox's desire continually to embody fresh matter relative to events continually cropping up in the House. Of course, this is a very neat way of replying to opponents' remarks, or backing up the statements of friends, but it will not add I much the value of the report.
