WATER SUPPLY.

A special meeting of the Municipal Council was held last evening, for the purpose of considering the charges to be made for water for motive power. There were present —His Worship the Mayor, Councillors Smith, Roberts, Headland, Otterson, Mainland, and Townsend. The Council went into Committee te consider the question, and on resuming, the following resolution, proposed by Councillor Roherts and seconded by Councillor Qtterson, was reported and adopted : That the following scale be charged for motive water power for 12 hours, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.—■

20 h.p. or over 10 0 0 That special arrangements be entered, into for less than four horse-power; that for a daily supply of 24 hours 50 per cent, additional be charged; and that special arrangements be made with the Council, when necessary, as to time of working. Councillor Otterson proposed, and Councillor Roberts seconded, that a standpipe should be erected at the corner of Arun and Hull-streets, in High Ward, for the use of residents in whose streets water is not laid on. The matter wag ordered to stand over for further consideration. It was resolved that plumbers wishing to lay on house services in connection with the water supply should apply to the Acting-Engineer for the necessary license.
