It- is not generally' known' that within a very short time the number of Coupoillors in Oamaru will be increased by one-half, Under the Municipal Corporations Act, 1576, which will probably be brought into force within a. short time, it is prodded that there shall be three Councillors for each ward, and the total number will therefore be increased from eight to twelve Councillors for the town. iAt a general meeting, .of the Oamaru Football Club held at the Royal Hotel last evening Mr. E. It was decided that next Saturday's match be between sides chosen by the captain and deputy?captain, Lovers .of the. beautiful must have been pleased with a number of specimens of drawing that have for some days been exhibited in the window of Messrs. Farr Bros.' shop. These are ' from the pencil of Mr. 1.Matthew;, and those who are desirous of acquiringthe ability to imitate Mr, Matthews will be pleased to learn that that gentleman has decided to open a drawing class in Oamaru. Pupils will be enrolled up to the Ist August. The Rifles Band will give auother of their weekly promenade concerts at the Volunteer Hall to-morrow, evening, and, judging from the success which attended that of last week, we have littlte doubt that to-morrow evening there will be a large attendance. At the Resident Magistrate's Court to-day, before T. W. Parker, Esq., R,M., one man was fined ss, with the option of 24 hours' imprisonment, for being drunk and disorderly. Mary Maule, charged with having no lawful visible means of support, was sent to gaol for seven days. A special meeting of the Municipal Council was held yesterday afternoon, when there were present—Councillors Headland (in the chair), Mainland, Otterson, Smith, Towns? end, and Humphrey. It was resolved that the following places be appointed polling booths for the forthcoming elections if necessary :—.Jetty Ward, Mr. Collis' store, Tynestreet; Thames Ward, Mr. Hardy's office, Wear-street; Severn Ward, Oddfellows' Hall, Coquet-street ; High Ward, Old Grammar School, Greta-street. It was resolved that nominations for Councillors and Auditors should take place on Tuesday, 27th July, at noon.
