CANTERBURY INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.
(BY TELEGRAPH.)' Christohubch, .Tuly 15. The Industrial Exhibition, for which great preparations have , been in progress for some weeks was opened by the Mayor to-day, at the drillshed. There was a large attendance, and the exhibition was successful beyond expectation. So many applications were received that many had to be rejected, although there is no, intention of giving awards or even certificates of any kind. The following is a' general description of the show given by an even* ing paper:—On ,entering the enclosure! and passing tbe inner barricade the visitor at once sees some of the exhibita— tho out-of-door items, including vehicles, windmill pump, &c. Conifers have sprung up as if by magic at the entrance to the building, which ,is in the centre of the western side. The spacious verandah is closely covered in, and is "utilised as a place in which to show carriages; A portion at one end is fitted up as a refreshment room and luncheon, ban Entering the large hall, the scene is a brilliant and imposing one. Thb north end may bo termed the top of the room. In the centre is an admirably fitted refreshment bar for ladies. Above the bar is the band platform,
