THE WEATHER AND THE RAILWAYS.

The heavy rain of yesterday has agaiu occasioned some small amount of 4apage to the railways, but the inconvenieace occasioned has not been of so great _ a nature as was the case last week. The Duntroon line was again flooded this morning, owing to there being no means of escape for the storm water, and as a conseqnence this morning's train, after proceeding as far as Gibson's siding, was compelled to return to town. Tb e afternoon train was not run, but it is anticipated that traffic will be resumed tomorrow morning. On the south line some delay was occasioned to the express train. This was caused by a heavy slip on the line south of the Otepopo tunnel. The debris was sufficiently cleared to enable the train to reach Oajjiaru about two o'clock. Some other slips are reported to have occurred nearer Duuedin, but particulars are not to hand. On the iNorth line the express train from Chri.ituliurcli proceeded f>n her journey all right until reaching Hilderthorpe, on this side of the bridge. Here the line was so flooded by storm-water that it was jact deemed safe to continue the journey, and the train remained at Hilderthorpe until the arrival of the up-train. The passengers were then transferred, and both trains returned to their points of departure. (by telegraph.) CIIKISTCHDKOH, July 5. The heavy rain yesterday caused a breach on the Kaiapoi-Eyreton railway line, but it was not yery serious.
