" That in.* the opinion of this - meeting the, property tax is inquisitorial in character and, oppressive La its bearing upon the- manufacturing and trading-' portion 1 o£ the- community.; and that the Bill should either be so modified i ai'to* remove its objectionable features or I be repealed, and a more equitable ipca-. sure enacted to provide the funds by - the > Government." 2. That .W j meeting is of opinion that a land an>sS,ii? come - tax is more' suitable to meefc the requirements of the present deficiency .than"the Property Tax Act, 'but * that the best means of j raising funds for the present deficiency are by a reduction of expenditure and a tax of a half-penny per lb. on the. wool exported." The Mayor was requested to forward' the resolutions to the> city ~ members,*- " including Sir Ggorge Grey."
