A writ of error in the Tichborne case by which it. was proposed to set aside the verdict on the ground that it wrongfully ordered two cumulative sentences for the same offence has been heard before the Court of Appeal. The cricket match between the Australians and 18 of Northampton was concluded to-day, and resulted in another (the tenth) victory for the Australians by eight wickets. A serious encounter has taken place between an armed force of civilians and a body of Argentine provincial troops who are in open rebellion, and were besjeged in the city. After heavy fighting the troops were conipletely routed by the civilians. June 26. .
Peace negotiations were opened to-day between the authorities of this city and the insurgents, with a view to the settlement of the difficulties which brought about the rebellion, .Tune 27.
The peace negotiations have failed, and fighting between the insurgents and the national guard was renewed to-day. Washington, June 25.
The Democratic Convention have chosen Mr. English as their candidate in the forthcoming election for Vice-President of America.
• Constantinople, June 25. The efforts at mediation between the Albanians and the Montenegrins, which the British have been making, have proved unsuccessful.
The Albanians decline to agree to the proposals made them, and have commenced re-arming their troops, with a view to again (despite any further attempt on the part of the Montenegrins) obtain the territory required to be ceded them in accordance with the Berlin Treaty. Berlin, June 26.
The European Conference have agreed to a rectification of the Greek frontier, including the towns of the Jania, Metzovo, and a portion of the district of Zogar. June 27.
It has been announced that the Porte has sent a circular note to the Great Powers, stating that the European Qon-= ference now assembled here has only the right ta mediate for a settlement of the dispute between Albania and Montenegro, and for the adjustment of the TurkoGreek frontier, but has no right to decide what course Turkey should pursue in the settlement of these difficulties.
