FIRES IN CHRISTCHURCH.

Christchurch, June 25.

Two fires occurred this evening, one about 6 and the other about 7.80. The first was a detached oottage near the Hospital, and the other a six-roomed dwellinghouse in Chester-street. The cottage near the Hospital was the property of Dr. Fisher, an absentee. It was insured in the Standard office for L§o, and the furniture for LSO in the same office. The house in Chester-street belonged to Mr. P. Cunningham, and was tenanted by Mrs. Talbot (Madame Josephine). The servant girl set the window curtains on fire accidentally. It was an old house, and was insured in the South British for L2OQ. The loss is estimated at LIOO more. The furniture was insured for L3OO ; believed to be, in the same office. Mrs. Talbot stated thaA she lost, besides furniture, a valuable diamond ring and L&O iu money. " LJO in money was also lost in the first house burned. j June 26.
