THE WEKA PASS RAILWAY WORKERS' PITTANCE.

(BY T®LEG3jiA?H.)

Christchxtrch, June 25,

A very plearly written statement of affairs at the unemployed works at Weka Pass appears in to-night's Star, The writer shows that while the regulation will permit no married man to earn more than 28s a week, and no. single man more than 21s, in reality they cannot earn these amounts, because when they oannot work, as on rainy days, they are not paid, It also appears that firewood i 3 supplied only about once a fortnight, and then in quantities quite insufficient, and the men have to hunt for supplementary supplies about the country, which they are lucky if they find.
