Tbe Orient Company's steamship Sorata arrived at Plymouth to-day, from Australia.
Consols have risen one-eight, and are quoted at 98J, ex div. ~ The Timaru Waterworks Loan, of L 60,000, at 7 per cent., is announced. New Zealand securities are quoted as follows:—Five per cent. 10-40 loan, L 104; 5 per cent. 1889 loan, L 10 3; 4J per cent. 1879-1904 loan, L9B. New Zealand wheat, ex ship, is selling at 493 ; Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, at 51s ; flour, ex warehouse, 383. For Australian tallow, best beef is quoted at 32s 6d, and best mutton at 34s 6d. June 16. The match between the Australians and eighteen players of the North of Ireland, at Belfast, was continued to-day. The home team in their second innings have been disposed of for 130 runs. The Australians then went in for their second innings, and have lost no wickets for 74 runs. Bannerman, not' out, 31 runs. Murdoch, not out, 43 runs.

In the Legislative Assembly, the Colonial Treasurer has introduced his Financial Statement. He said that, in consequence of Parliament approving only of part of the proposals in the last Budget, and largely in consequence of the decrease in the revenue from land sales, instead of the surplus then expected, there was a deficit of L 440,000. The deficit is to be covered by an increase of taxes on the export of wool—greasy, one farthing ; washed and scoured, one half-penny; on horses and cattle exported, sixpence per head; and a royalty of sixpence per ton on the output of coal. It was also intended to re-introduce the Stamp Bill as amended, and in accord with the Council. The Treasurer estimates the revenue for the remainder of the year at L 3,140,000, and the expenditure at L 2,600,000; and next year's revenue he estimates at L 5,230,000. Melbourne, June 17. The Payment of Members Bill was again under discussion in the Legislative Assembly last night. An amendment proposed by Mr. Murray Smith to exclude payment to members of the Legislative Council was defeated on a division by 48 to 28. No progress was made with the measure and Mr. Williams, the member in charge of the Bill, threatened to abandon it unless the House dealt rapidly with it. Angry Bcenes occurred in the Chamber last night in consequence of impediments being placed in the way of tbe Bill patgiog.
Sir Cunliffe Owen has resigned his position as one of the Commissioners for Great Britain to the Melbourne Exhi-' bition. Herbert Landford succeeds him.
Messrs Money Wigram and Co. have decided to withdraw from the Australian trade and are going to sell their vessels. Sailed —Rotomahana for the Bluff.
