A report ha 3 been received that the Chinese have occupied a large portion of the Kuldja Territory, the concession of whicli to Russia has for some time past been in dispute. The cricket match, Australians v. Eighteen of Mai ton, was commenced today. The Home team went in first, and scored 45. The Australians then went to the wickets,: and were all disposed of for 53 runs. When the stumps were drawn for tl)B day, the. Eighteen had lost two wickets in their second innings without scoring. The wicket was very dead, preventing good batting. Tn the House of Commons this evening, Lord Hartington made a statement regarding the state of affairs in Afghanistan. He said be hoped the British troops would be able to withdraw from that country in the autumn. Gandaljar will be'created a separate Government without permanent occupation. The Treaty -of Gundamak will be abrogated.' Lord Hartington further stated that instructions had beep sent to Earl Ripon, the new Viceroy, to abandop or retain the' frontier positions according to their merits.
