The Auctioneers Bill now before Parliament imposes a maximum" penalty of LIOO and three- .years' disqualification, from auctioneer's/license^up.on auyr person ; .selliilg by auction without a license. Auctioneers.' licenses are to be issue'dby county or borough treasurers,- the.fee bemg,L4o pel? annunvan4 are not to be granted to any person whose principal or sole place of business is not within such a county or borough. A license, so long as in forpe, is to authorise the holder to conduct auction, sales .in any .part; of ..the Colony. ' Thus it will be seen that 1 the hitherto existing' of different scales of fees being charged in. .di&ereiit provincial districts is to be abolished, and one,, .fee charged throughout-the whole of the Colony. The existing lieepses are. to remain in force until expiry by effluxion of time. In the case: of partnerships all the partners are required to ; pay the fee.' Publicans and uncertificated bankrupts are incapacitated from holding licenses. ' There arc some stringent clauses with reference to the conduct of auctions, one of them making it illegal for an' auctioneer to exercise his business by artificial light, or after 5 p.m.; •from April, to September, or after 7 p.m., during the rest of the year.
