The following additional appointments to the new Ministry have been announced :—Sir Vm. Vernon Harcourt becomes Secretary of State of the Home Department, and tlje Duke of Argyle fills the position of Lord President of the Council. Mi*. O. J. Goschen and Lord Roseberrv were offered, but declined, portfolios in. the new Ministry. Mr, Gladstone experiences a clifficulty in the formation of the new Ministry, owing to .some provincial Radical having claimed a portfolio. Calcutta, April 27. Latest news from Afghanistan announces further fighting ; at Ghuznee. The hostile tribes were again assuming a threatening aspect, and General Stewart consequently attacked and dislodged them from the heights surrounding Ghuznee. The enemy have retreated to the mountainous country beyond the city. Intelligence ha§ also. been received of the resumption of hostilities at Cabul. Afghans attacked Generals Jenkins and Macpherson and Charisib, but qfter heavy fighting were repulsed with severe loss. The British | loss during the action wa3 trifling, (SPECIAIi TO SYDNEY MORNING HERALD.) London, April 23. The Daily News says: It is understood at Portsmouth that the Prince of Wales visits Australia next autumn in the Serapis, Sir Garnet Wolseley has been directed to return to England forthwith.
