ACCIDENT TO THE GOVERNMENT STEAMER STELLA.
[BY TELEGRAPH.] Wellington, April 15. An accident happened to the Govern? menfc steamer Stella yesterday. She left here on Tuesday with stores for the Brothers' Lighthouse, but a heavy sea copiing on she was unable to effect a landing, and retyrned to Queen Charlotte Sound for shelter. Yesterday morning, while coming out of the Sound to make another attempt, and when between Cape Coamoroo and White Rock, she struck a sunken rqck. The vessel was going at full speed, and struck amidships. She dragged clear, when it was found that the steamer was not making water, and was apparently uninjured. The rock on which she struck was about g, quarter of a mile outside of any rocks parked on charts, and was buoyed by Captain M-'JCerzie. Captain Johnson, of the Mapine Department, leaves in the 3teamer? to-n)orr.riw to take the bearings of the rock, after which the Stella will be placed on the slip for the purpose of ascertaining to what extent she is damaged.
